Mushroom Shelf: An Intervention on Mushroom Propagation

The use of alternative propagation method aside from mushroom beds has been the new area of research and development in the field of agriculture. A propagation method that is productive for both dry and wet season is the center ideology of this study. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of Rice Straw Mushroom (V, volvacea) when grown in mushroom shelf, an intervention for mushroom propagation. A completely randomized research design was used in the study with two treatments (T1 (100% corn cobs), T2 (20% maize stem + 80% corn cobs) and a control group (100 % banana leaves with replications in both mushroom shelf and non-mushroom shelf with a total of 18 beddings. Two-Way Factor ANOVA revealed that growing V. volvacea in mushroom shelf is comparable when grown in the non-shelf planting (traditional method) in terms of size of pileus, size of stipe, and weight of basidiocarp produced but not as to number of days to developed primordia. Further, no significant interaction exists between the performance of V. volvacea in the type of substrates and use of shelf in terms of the size of pileus, size of stipe and weight of basidiocarp produced but not as to number of days to developed primordia. Adaptation of mushroom shelf planting on mushroom propagation is one of the recommendations given in the study.

Mushroom is a 100% vegetarian diet having tremendous medicinal properties. They are rich in protein, fiber, and amino acids. It is also good for joint pains, lowers cholesterol and helps in purifying blood with substantial vitamins and minerals. From mushroom pappads, soup powder pickles, health powder, health drinks, pakodas and capsule can be prepared. Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) was cultivated on wheat straw basal substrate cotton seed hull basal substrate, rice straw basal substrate, and wheat straw or rice straw supplemented with variuos proportions of cotton seed hull. The effect of autoclaved sterilized and non-sterilized substrate on yield and yield contributing factors of oyster mushroom was also studied. Performance of Edible Mushroom Varieties Under Different Agricultural Substrates

The study was conducted at Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa, Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology (DEBESMSCAT) Cabitan, Mandaon, Masbate. The experimental design used was 3 x 7 CRD factorial with three varieties of mushrooms (Pink Oyster, White Abalone, and Milky Mushroom), seven agricultural substrates as treatments, Treatment A (70% rice straw and 30% sawdust), Treatment B (70% rice straw and 30% corn cob), Treatment C (70% rice straw and 30% Carbonized Rice Hull), Treatment D (100% rice straw), Treatment E (100% sawdust), Treatment F (100% corn cob) and Treatment G (100% Carbonized Rice Hull). The experiment was replicated three times with a total of 945 fruiting bags. Height, fresh weight, and the number of fruiting bodies are the data that was observed in the study.
